Craft and Technology (C&T)
Craft and Technology (C&T)
Innovative Designers | Innovative Makers | Passionate Learners |
We aim to develop students to become self-directed passionate learners and innovative designers through an authentic and experiential learning curriculum. Students will discover their strengths and interests through a variety of design-and-made projects and alternative assessment tasks in a safe and stimulating learning environment.
The C&T department consists of 3 subject units, namely:
- Aesthetics (Art/ Music) Unit;
- Design and Technology (D&T) Unit, and;
- Nutrition & Food Science (NFS) Unit.
All lower secondary students take C&T subjects, while upper secondary students are offered the C&T subjects as an elective subject. The department-focused BLP muscles are Noticing, Imagining, Planning and Imitation.
Aesthetics
What is Aesthetics @ MJR?
Art Programme aims to enable every child to enjoy art; communicate visually and make meaning through connecting with society and culture. Students are taught to Perceive through identifying and interpreting of their surrounding stimulus, Communicate through expression of ideas and experimenting with mediums and lastly Appreciate by drawing connections and responding.

Under the school Learning for Life Programme, students embark on learning journeys to museums such as National Gallery Singapore and Asian Civilisation Museum. Upper secondary students embark on learning journeys to museums and open houses organized by various Institutes of Higher Learning.

Design and Technology (D&T)
What is Design and Technology (D&T) @MJR?
The design thinking process is central to the learning experiences in D&T@MJR. Students develop a way of design thinking through sketching to generate and to develop design solutions for real-world contexts. Students explore and experiment ideas through mock-ups as they seek a practical and appropriate design solution for the identified user. Students make prototype as a cognitive and hand-ons endeavour. Through designing and making, students develop 21st century competencies and designerly dispositions, namely, embracing uncertainties and complexities in real-world contexts, be cognizant of and resolve ill-defined problems, and relentless drive to seek out how things work.
Design and Technology (D&T) Programmes
In alignment with our School Applied Learning Programme, Smart Home and Assistive Technologies, Lower Sec students conceptualize and create design solutions for the elderly and less fortunate via a series of structured design-and-make projects. Upper Sec Students extend their learning at the tertiary level as they participate in design courses in post-sec institutions and embark on learning journey to design museums. These learning experiences prepare students for the undertaking of a coursework task in the National GCE examination.
