Visit of Seki City Junior High Schools (Japan)
Twelve students from seven different Junior High schools of Seki City from Gifu Prefecture, Japan accompanied by three officials of their Board of Education visited Singapore in August. The team was led by Ms Kitase Miyuki, Secretary-General of the Seki Board of Education. They spent three days (18-20 August) in an exchange programme with students in Manjusri Sec to experience local schooling as well as build friendships and cross-cultural understanding.
In addition to attending special lessons and CCA at Manjusri Sec, the Japanese youth together with their paired buddies went on excursion to the Asian Civilisations Museum and Malay Heritage Centre as well as saw the sights on a Singapore River cruise. They ended their stay with a traditional Japanese dance performance at the school amphitheatre.
The school is planning a return visit to Japan in November for our students with teachers to attend programmes at Midorigaoka Junior High and Asahigaoka Junior High in Seki City which is located north-east from Nagoya. From the trip, we hope to gain some understanding and insight into the lives of Japanese youth and of their society.
