Our Principal's Address

Welcome to the web-site of Manjusri Secondary School. It is our vision to be an educational institution that inspires the growth of Passionate Learners and Compassionate Leaders. In our mission to nurture Manjusrians who are anchored in values whilst global in perspective, we seek to imbue them with Respect for self and others, Integrity in their words and actions, the spirit of Care for others; and thirst for Excellence.

MJR prides itself on cultivating an orderly and supportive learning environment; and establishing positive expectations to bring out the best in our students in character development and their studies. We are committed to fostering respectful relationships and to provide opportunities for active contribution as a means of imbuing Manjusrians with the desired virtues. Our Student Development Team and Year Head system allows us to support Form Teachers in closely monitoring the well-being of our students.

The school’s signature initiatives include (1) Smart Home Technologies - introducing students to the innovative use of electronics and engineering in homes to benefit the elderly or disabled through subject-related projects; (2) Learning through the Arts - strengthening students’ appreciation and participation in various art forms (e.g. drama, guitar, sand art) as an avenue for self-expression and to develop their imagination and self-confidence; (3) Building Learning Power – cultivation of habits and attitudes so that students become better learners who can work together with others to face challenges with resilience, resourcefulness and reflectiveness.

MJR achieved strong value-added academic results in the Express Course at the GCE O level examinations 2016 – our best performance of the past five years.  82.6% of our candidates qualified for ‘A’ level studies (JC/MI) and 92.4% were eligible for Polytechnic courses.  MJR has also done well at the GCE N level examinations with a rising proportion of students (80.6%) from the Normal Academic course who are able to progress to the Sec 5 level.

In the posting exercise for our 2017 Sec 1 classes, the PSLE T-Score aggregate range for the various courses was:

  • Non-Affiliation: Express 188 – 227, Normal (Academic) 156 – 190 & Normal (Technical) 117 – 156.
  • Affiliation : Express 188 – 223, Normal (Academic) 153 – 187 & Normal (Technical) 120 – 151.
A majority of posted students (74.8%) once again picked MSS as their 1st choice school. The top feeder schools were Maha Bodhi School, Kong Hwa School & Telok Kurau Primary.

We look forward to collaborating with parents and the community to provide a balanced all-round education for our pupils; and to ensure that they are ready for the future as morally upright and resilient individuals as well as responsible contributors in society.
